Introduction
The word Australia has been derived from the Latin word Australis, which means of the south. Australia, officially known as the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country in Southern Hemisphere. The mainland of the smallest continent in the world, and several other islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans together form Australia.
Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea in the north, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the French dependency of New Caledonia in the northeast, and New Zealand in the southeast surround the country.
The population of the country is approximately 20.6 million. A large proportion of population is settled in the coastal cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. Australia is a Constitutional Monarchy with a parliamentary system of government. The country has a liberal democratic political system and is a part of the Commonwealth.
Climatic Conditions in Australia
A substantial part of the country is desert or semi arid. In fact, Australia is the driest continent. The southeastern and southwestern parts of the country have a temperate climate. The northern part of the country has a tropical climate. The vegetation in the area consists of rainforest, woodland, grassland, mangrove swamps, and deserts. Ocean currents influence the climatic conditions in the country greatly. Summer runs from November to March while winter season is from May to August. Interior parts of the country are hot during daytime throughout the year. However, nights are cooler.
Education Scenario in Australia
The Australian education system has been segmented into three divisions: school education, vocational education & training, and higher education. Proximity to Asian countries makes it a favorite destination for students willing to go for higher education.
Also, the Government of Australia has initiated an Overseas Student Program (OSP). The program has been launched with the objective of providing opportunities to foreigners to study in Australia. However, students can gain access under the OSP only if they have enrolled themselves for a registered course.
The Universities in Australia provide wide avenues in cutting-edge research. As a matter of fact, Australian universities are reputed for providing quality education.

There is a wide range of accommodation options available to students who are in the country for studies. The various types of staying options available to students include: on-campus stay in residential colleges and universities, apartments and houses owned and operated by various universities, and other off-campus accommodations options such as homestay, shared house, and rented apartments. There are student villages also that have accommodation for a substantial number of students.
Residences at colleges and student hostels can be booked before the student is ready to move. Pre-booking ensures that students save themselves from the last minute rush. At the same time, they lose the advantage of inspecting the accommodation before moving in.
