India has been popular as an education and learning destination for centuries now. After secondary education or high school, students move on to colleges in India to pursue higher education. Higher education in India involves many streams, where each stream is monitored by an apex body, indirectly controlled by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and funded by the state governments. There are 18 important universities, which are called Central Universities and are maintained by the Union Government. All the universities in India need to be accredited by law unless they have been created by an Act of Parliament. The universities that have no accreditation can be termed as fake universities.
