    Local Transport in South Africa

Minibus taxis are one of the most important means of transportation in the country. Minibus taxis in strict sense are not taxis. Rather, they are small-scale bus services with very infrequent services. There are metered taxis available but they are very infrequent and can be contacted over phone. Bus and suburban rail networks are available in all the main cities of the country. Durban, for example has one of the best transportation facilities in the country. Here traditional bus services are in tough competition with minibuses and combi-taxis. Bus operators such as Greyhound and Translux have intercity express services.
